Question about sending certified return receipt mail

Okay, maybe this should go somewhere else....but I wasn't sure.  When I go to the Post office for the certified mail do I have to mail it right then and there or can I take it home and mail it later.  Just curious because I am sending out 5 DV letters, and didn't really want to be standing in the middle of the post office filing them out

You can pick up the CM lables and return receipt green cards in advance.
