I have one CO account on my CR from 2009 that's paid with a $0 balance, its with the original creditor, GECB/AmerEagle. It has been paid for a while and I have tried GW them to have it removed with no success. So 3 weeks ago I said what the heck and did a dispute via experian. I called experian for an update and they said the OC has no responded to my dispute yet. In your opinion, if the OC has not responded yet do you think they will just let it hit 40 days and then by default be removed from my CRs?
I also have one remaining collection account on my CR from CBA Collection Bureau. I paid them last year before I saw this site and knew about PFD. I called them looking got a GW and got the run around from their reps..So I decided to go the same route with a dispute via equifax since its only showing on that CR...If they don't respond and just let it go it will be removed, correct?
The creditor has 30 days to respond to the dispute. If they don't then the CRA will delete. If they do respond and the tradeline has not been updated in a long time it could make it look like a new collection and can lower your scores. Certain factors are removed in a dispute when it involves an OC account.

Of course there was a "reason" to dispute this. But yes, if no response is received from them by the CRAs, it should be deleted.

This does not make sense to me, sorry. If the balance is zero and there has been no activity on the account since 2011 how can it appear as a new collection? All they have to do is validate it to the CRB and that's it. What would they update it with? Should I cancel my dispute. This is the the last CO on my CR and want it off.
Thanks

I had a CO for example that had not been reporting since ~2010. It got updated when I disputed it (before I knew I shouldn't have, had no real good reason now that I think about it..) to show all the way up to July 2013 with COs. Hurt my scores a bit. Sometimes a OC/CA won't update for awhile, but if you dispute and it is verified, it will lots of times get it updated by them.

when you disputed it did you owe a balance?
A charge Off will always be one, paid or not. by them updating the TL which will probably be this month if they choose too could hurt your score. Certain factors are removed when you dispute a OC account.

Yes, I still owed/owe a balance on it. But as Dabears mentioned, they will report a CO regardless if paid or not. If paid, it will have the notation of paid CO.
