I filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and less than a year later I lost my great salary paying job. So I my credit ended up back where it started before bankruptcy. So 4 years later my credit is still in the mid-500's and I can't seem to get it to budge. I think I should have not filed but my wages were getting garnished and more people said to file than to pay...

I've been reading these forums for hours.. maybe I need to stop because it's sorta depressing when I read posts from people that say fresh out of a CH7 their CS is 700. And here I am not even close to 600 :/
Don't get me wrong.. this isn't a pity party. I did my dirt to my credit and I own that. So I took responsibility for it and paid it all off. But its like I've read here time & again, its a marathon not a sprint. So I'm patient for the most part..but I have my days..
Anywho.. I'm done venting lol Have a great day folks!
I think you did the right thing. In the long run, you will be alot better off. What you need to do is start establishing credit, if you had not done so already.
