Random email from True Accord LVNV Funding requesting to pay debt.

Received an random really out of the blue email this week from TrueAccord saying I have an account with LVNV Funding and the original creditor was CIT bank (I've never heard of them) and as of October 2009 I owed $1,300.  I have no late payments no negative items on my credit report and muy score is mid 700's.' been squeeky clean for over 6 years.

I asked for proof of debt and they told me in an email "I would be happy to provide you with that information via US mail. While we process your dispute, we have paused all collection activity and informed the account owner, LVNV Funding LLC. Please provide your best mailing address so that I can ensure we have the correct one on file. We will mail you the debt validation documents as soon as we receive them from the creditor. We will not resume collection activity until you have been provided with validation documentation."

If this debt is from 2009 my states statue of limitations ran out and they told me in the email " the law limits how long you can be sued on a debt. Because of the age of your debt, LVNV Funding LLC will not sue you for it, and LVNV Funding LLC will not report it to any credit reporting agency."

I'm like yall think im going to pay this "debt" haha.

We answered your concern here:

They dont know your address? The creditor would have given them your address. Wont resume collection until validation? Phishing. Block and ignore.

If it is not showing up on your credit report then ignore it. If it shows up eventually then you will need to dispute it.

It's from Dell Financial Services.  I got one too from 2009.  It's waaaay too late to hit the credit report or be collected.  So long I forgot I owed it.  Y'all hang on and wait til I call you to pay that one!

Re: Random email from True Accord LVNV Funding requesting to pay debt.

Honestly, I woudn't ignore it, I would send them a certified cease and desist letter.  Ignoring it means they tend to ship it off to one of LVNV's other lackeys and start over from scratch.  If you send them a cease and desist--and send one to LVNV as well, any continued attempts to collect from you may result in federal law violations that would then make them liable to pay you if you chose to pursue them.

Validating the debt serves you no good purpose at this point--if it's from 2009, then even if they can validate it, SOL has still expired and the only way they can collect is if you chose to pay them.

"Scammers will often make themselves appear legitimate by operating under a company or other authority figure’s name, but they cannot replicate a sender’s address. For example, if you receive a collections communication from TrueAccord, it will be from one of our company domains meaning that the email address (after the @ symbol) will either read “trueaccord.com” or a related address."
