All,
OK I'm new around here, lots of useful data.. And I'm hoping that I can get some assistance.
I'll fully admit I didn't keep a close eye on my credit, I had some issues years ago in college (like 1993/1994) but got it fixed years ago. Never really looked into my credit. I have cards, some as long as 15-20 years now. So about 3 weeks ago my wife and I put our current home on the market, we had bought this house in 2003, starter home, now we have 2 kids, etc. Needed more room.
Lo and behold, 2 days later.. CASH OFFER! Right below our asking price, and then came back and wanted to buy some of our furniture as well (kids furniture). So went to go get preapproved for a new mortgage on the house my wife and I want. THEN things got ugly..
My wife's credit? Great, score of 765 middle Fico.
My credit? Total crap. 545.
I discovered that at some point in 2006/2007 someone got my identity and online got around 9-10 credit cards, charged them up and tossed them. All addresses I didn't live at (at one point three weeks ago I had 18 different addresses on my credit report from 2004-now.. I've only lived in my same house that entire time.) So I got my FTC notarized affidavit, attempted to file a police report (College town, police said basically.. It's so old man, nothing we can do).
Started spending a LOT of time at the post office.. And got things sent out to 1001 places.
THE GOOD:
Getting letters back that the collection agencies agree that it's fraud and they will notify the CRA's accordingly.
THE BAD:
The CRA's are taking FOREVER to update. I've called and keep getting call center folks in what I assume is a foreign land, who just keep thinking I want to open a new dispute. (which isn't what I'm after.)
Does ANYONE have any advice on how to get these letters to the CRA's?
I'm under a bit of a time crunch, the buyers are willing to wait, but they've been waiting for three weeks, not sure how much longer they will wait. The house we want is still for sale, but not sure how much longer it will be.
Let me just say.. ARRRGGGHHHHH!!
Sorry to hear of this hopefully it all works out fast. Here is some reading that may help
Good luck and best wishes

By law, the police department has to fill out a report for identity theft. I don't care how old it is. Show this to them make it clear if they fail to do so they can be held liable.

No, they don't. They can decline to take a report.
Thanks all. I got word yesterday that three more collection agencies have agreed that' the items are fraudulent, and have sent me mail to the effect. As soon as I get those, I'll keep pushing on the CRA's... I'd discovered calling them is a total waste of time, I never get anyone who understands what's going on, and always end up with someone wanting me to open a new dispute, but that's not what I want.. it's already *IN* dispute.
I've asked for supervisors and the like and I *still* get that repsonse.
Fill out an FTC Fraud Affidavit and send it to the CRAs and have them block the accounts.
If the CAs know they are fraud they have to delete them. By not doing so it is willfull noncompliance.
whoot!
Not only did I get three more letters today.. 1 from Midland Credit Management, I also got *TWO* Cap One remval letters today! That just leaves BoA an LVNV, and a Calvary left. The BoA.. It was actually transferred/sold to Asset Acceptance, who I already have a letter from saying it will be removed.. do I need to do anything about the BoA?
I've already spoken to LVNV and Calvary, they actually gave me a fax number to send things to a real live person and there attn: (I also certified mailed the info) So hopefully get all this gone asap.
On top of that.. Just to help the score up, I applied for and got a Barclaycard Rewards today. No idea what the limit is on it...
But the fact that I got it is good LOL
