Ive done pretty good in rebuilding my credit myself by paying off old stupid credit cards that had balances of $200 and such and by getting the creditor to remove them from my credit report. Ive never heard of a GW letter and am happy about hearing about that as I have 3 more negative things to come off that have been paid off.
Onto the problem.
Ive pulled my credit reports and this isnt on there which is suspicious to me.
I had an account with Wells Fargo from Jun 04 until Dec 04. I closed the account when I enlisted in the US Army. I received nothing from Wells Fargo regarding paying them anything for a remaining balance. Fast forward until July 22, 2008 and I receive a letter from the "Law Offices" of Mitchell N. Kay and RJM Acquisitions. Ive done my research on them and come to the conclusion that it was indeed a "bad" debt and that I owed nothing at all. So in response of their letter I sent a letter for debt validation on Sept 17, 2008 after receiving another letter from them on the 10th of Sept. They responded back to my request on Dec 15, 2008 with a letter saying they are gathering the information I requested.
On Thursday I receive the debt validation. Almost a full year after I requested it from them. Now, its my account but it shows the last activity in the account and that I had a postive balance in the account. They say that I owe $511.XX. Ive disputed it and its my account but the account was closed with a postive balance.
Im at a lost of what to do next. Can I get some help here?
Do you have your final statement from the cc that shows cc closed?
Thank you for your service. Much appreciated!
I do not have any of my financial records thanks to a flood that ruined all of my documents while they were stored at my mothers house during my first deployment in 2005. I know that sounds like BS but its the truth. It royally sucks as this is the 2nd issue that could be cleared up if I had those records.
Im not disputing the account is mine. Im disputing the amount that they say I owe. I realize that RJM is one of the better CAs and they would quite possibly accept a PFD for a lesser amount due to how old the account is. This is over 5 years ago. So should I just contact RJM on Monday and ask them if they would do a PFD?
Also, thanks for recognizing my service! I enjoyed it and loved serving my country but I think I enjoy being a civilian even more now.
1. Contact Wells Fargo for old records. Ask them to copy you for free. Pay if you need to.
2. DV CA.
I already recieved the DV back from them. I got it back on thursday after almost a year. Like I said its my account but Im not sure of the amount that it is being reported.
I will contact Wells Fargo on monday to ask for them to search for the actual check scan rather than just the check # and amount that RJM was provided.
Again, thanks for the help!
I know you said the CA provided proof - I mean verification of debt.. Did it include a copy of the last few statements, including the one you last paid, showing what charges/balance was? The one after it, after you closed the account?
A random page saying you owe xxx is not verification to me.
Sounds like you have already requested a copy of the last few statements from the OC. Just wait, I guess. That is the hardest part!
