Removing Collection/Negative in Credit Report Help

Hello,

Unfortunately, I had a verizon account and closed it.   However, there was a remaining $50 balance that ballooned to $107 and has been reported to collection.  I wanted to find out if I can pay the balance to the collection and have the negative remark removed.  With any collection, can you negotiate with collection to have it removed if balance is paid or does it stay on the credit report even if it is paid.  Can you negotitate with them?

Re: Removing Collection/Negative in Credit Report Help

I'm not an expert on this by any means, and correct me if I'm wrong...

What I would recommend, ask them if you PIF (Pay In Full) if they will delete the negative remark. Make sure this is in WRITING, never accept anything word of mouth, you have no way to prove what they said.

Did you already pay them?

If so, look around on the forums for a Good Will letter explaining the situation and asking them kindly to remove the remark.

If you have more questions feel free to ask!!

Good luck!!!

Who is reporting this account? A CA or the OC?

Re: Removing Collection/Negative in Credit Report Help

I looked in my account detail and for this verizon account, it states current status: bad debt/collection; description - charged off acount.  It still lists verizon as the account holder.

Also, I have another account and it has Nco Fin/22.  Is this a collection agency?  If a bad debt had been paid off and is noted as paid in full and is still in my credit report, can I ask the collection agency to remove it from my credit file or is this too late since I had paid it off?

Tullz is on the right track...and would like to add that what poster is describing is a PFD.

NCO FIN/22 is also a branch of the CA, NCO. If you pay a CA without a PFD, they can continue to report. Your only option is to GW.

Re: Removing Collection/Negative in Credit Report Help

I also had the same problem with AT&T we switched to a different provider in Sept, but our second home line was not disconnected. AT&T sent it to a collection company CCA. I tried to get them to remove it with no luck, they won't even except payment for deletion. I decided to go back to the source AT&T spoke with accounts receivable department they agreed to rescind it from the collect agency if I paid it in full with them.  It worked AT&T pulled from the collection agency with in two days, sent me a letter to send to the credit bureau.
