I finally did get it deleted. I pay for all 3 services plus FICO because I feel i have to watch everything very closely. I also found out the last lien took so long to delete because no one there understood the assigned acct number given by Equifax bk1005pg230 translated to book 1005 page 230 at the courthouse! It wasnt until someone finally explained to me that they kept verifying the information because the acct numbers didnt match. I had to do the translation for them.
If anyone else out there has this problem...this could be your fix. The acct numbers are sometimes lost in translation. 2 long years........
I get account changes on score watch even if the score doesn't change. I do NOT get notifications for removals....it is a guessing game. I get an alert...then, I go to the individual CRA to check and see if it is gone.....

Great advice! However the form 12277 is for federal tax lien. How do I remove the state tax lien?
Most state liens cannot be removed. Which state are you referring to?
Hi Stillness,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Are you in California? I have 2 paid state tax liens and had them released but not having any luck wiht getting them withdrawn. I spoke with a tax payer advocate for the state of CA and just got a lecture and the borad of equalization was no help either.
Who did you contact and what was the process for the removal. I've read hundreds of entries now and still unsure of next steps. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! These are the biggest stain on my credit report and I'm trying to buy my first property this summer and I know this is probably going to be a road block on getting financing.
Thank you
D
I'm in a similar state of CA boat. I did not know the lien existed until the money was taken from my account (I had several addresses - all out of state - over the 3 years or so since I left CA) so there were never any certified letters, etc. etc. Given that, I'm hoping going the attorney hire route will help. I'll keep this thread updated as I go.

I'd suggest writing a GW letter and faxing it to the FTB. It worked for me and the lien was completely removed in less than 10 days.
I sent a GW letter via email in CA and got a phone call back and lecture basically telling me it was my fault and I would have to deal with the consequences. I've already paid the tax, the penalties and interest and now I have to be penalized for another 7 years. I know I made a mistake, but I paid out the yin yang in fees and penalties and feel CA is being a bit unreasonable by further penalizing me. I sent dispute letters to all 3 CRAs along with copies of the released liens and my tax returns stamped by the FTB showing the amounts owed were a fraction of the liens and therefore the CRAs are reporting inaccurate information. I pray this works as i have no collection accounts on my report, low credit card utilization and everything else is prety clean. Right now all my scores are in the low to mid 600s and hoping to get them up to 700 if I can just get these liens removed. Please wish me luck my friends, I need it
Has anyone else had success disputing the CRAs directly, sending the releases and copies of their actual paid tax?
A released tax lien should not pose a problem. I would be able to get an FHA mortgage if my lien was released.
However, it's still a PR that holds down your FICO score.
Scores | 2013-09-21 | Current |
Equifax | 630 (LP) | 755 (CK)/749 (Quizzle) |
Experian | 640 (FCR) | FICO 707 (Amex) |
TransUnion | 588 (CK) | FICO 754 (Barclaycard) |

I doubt that your dispute will remove the released lien. I'm sorry that your experience was negative. I sent my request via fax and it was very easy. Maybe the person who read it was in a good mood.
I would suggest trying again.
