Same account with different numbers reporting??

HSBC is reporting the same account using different acct numbers on my credit report with same open date, diff closing dates on my credit report. one of the accts says closed 10/2005 and also lists that as paid date.  the next acct is exact same number except last four digits are different and it is listed as negative.  Anyone have any ideas how to handle this mess? its listed on my transunion report this way.  Doesnt appear to be listed other than once on my experian and equifax, with both OC and CA.  Please help!

Re: Same account with different numbers reporting??

was your card ever reported as lost or stolen?  They would still list with the same "open" date from when the credit line was first granted.  Close dates differ according to when card was reported lost/stolen.

Re: Same account with different numbers reporting??

I have the same issue w/a GEMB Sam's Club Discover Card. Yes it was reported lost or stolen, but why should these be reported twice? Both are reported closed and current status is paid or paying as agreed. I'm still paying off the balance.  Do you think a GW would work, asking the OC to consider merging them, or is that most likely futile?
