I had 2 medical collections ($270 and $830) that were with one collection agency.
I called today to ask for a settlement after the OCs declined to recall.
I was told that they no longer hold the $830 collection and she offered 50% settlement PLUS deletion. I paid it immediately!
Now, can I dispute the $830 collection since they no longer hold the debt?

Yes, if they no longer have collection authority, they should delete their reporting, under CRA reporting guidelines.
Yes, it should be deleted, but the problem is that you only have their oral statement, and thus no hard documentation to provide to the CRA,
Thus, I would first call the debt collector and remind them of their credit reporting obligation to delete their collection.
I would then wait a month or so for them to report the deletion before formally disputng without any hard facts.

Agreed, always get them to fax/email a PFD letter.
