I settled a credit debt myself with Discover card-- I have a letter stating settled, the amount of the debt was $11,998.00 and settled for $7,000.00--but now I see on my spouses credit that discover is stating he owes the balance, I guess I was stupid and settled, and did not verify if the company can go after my spouse, but i assumed settled in full with me meant settled...can they do this?
Is /was your husband an Authorized User added to the Discover card account or was it a Joint Account or just yours?
My husband was not a co-signer nor an authorized user we live in California soa creditr can go after him, but I have a letter showing settled in full, can the Discover still go after him?
Do you have paperwork from them stating that by settling, it pays the debt in full?
If so, then, no, the debt is supposed to considered done. The one exception is that they could send you a 1099-C for the forgiven amount which you would include as income.
It looks like they may be trying to pull a fast one by going after your spouse.
Im assuming you didnt offer a PFD?
Actually, no they can't go after him for the same debt. It is settled, it's just not updated on his report. You can contact them and ask them to update.
It was never on his report. Only the difference in the settled amount is now on his CR.
thank you very much for the reply
