Simple Credit Score help.

I am currently like everyone else on this forum in the process of repairing my credit. I am at 558 and want to move it up as soon as possible. Right now on my report I have two Collections account which I am now paying on to have them removed so the date of last transaction is updated. May have been a mistake, oh well can't do anything about it now. I'm just gonna pay 'em off and get the balance off my report. Now my question is will paying these collections off help my score or should I look into getting a secured card? Please, Please, Please straight forward answers only. No links to other threads or coments on collection account (consider them payed off and still on my report as satisfied) PLEASE!!! I am trying to get help and just need a straight forward answer.

Do you have any active revolving TL reporting?

If not, adding one will likely get you an increase.

Re: Simple Credit Score help.

Paying a collection will NOT help your scores unless you do so using a PFD.  date of last transaction???  whats that. Do you mean DOLA?

A collection that is updated by making a payment may lower your scores. A Paid collections is the same as an unpaid collection as far as scoring goes.

Baddies drop from your CR 7-7.5 years from DOFD not date paid.
