I have a judgment from 2006 that is being reported 2 times on my report, with the same case numbers but different amounts (by $30), it is set to fall off in about a year. My question, is should I dispute one of them, or both. And beyond that, there has been no collection effort on this in years, will this awaken the sleeping beast? Will something this old make a big difference to my score, enough to warrant the possible onslaught on threatening calls? I plan on paying it, but after it falls off of my report. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Starting Score: FICO EQ = 503 | TU - 504Yes, I would dispute the double reporting of the same judgment. The CRAs can address that issue by their own reinvestigation authority.
Being a public record, you dont know the actual identity of the reporting parties. It may not be the debt collector who the furnished the reporting, and thus may not be involved at all in the CRA reinvestigation. Only the CRA can determine who they are required to contact for verification, and the appropriate means to verify the accuracy of the reporting.
Your dispute should be through the CRAs, as the direct dispute process does not apply to public record information.
