I have a question I'm hoping someone can help answer. I noticed recently when submitting a loan pre-qualification, one of the reasons for denial was derogatory credit history. The only baddie on my report is a string of 8 consecutive months of 30 day lates from an old car loan in late 2017 through mid 2018. They are falling off 1 month at a time and should be completely off around November of this year. Could these 30 day lates be holding my score back quite a bit? It's been over 6 years since my last delinquency. Do you think I'll see a considerable increase once it's fully off my credit report? I know there is a lot more than just that that make up credit scores. I'm Just curious if it's holding things back more being a consecutive string of lates.
You have only given partial information, so conjecture:
Are they in fact all 30 day late's?
If so, (and if they are truly the only derogatory items on your credit report), then they are likely not doing too much harm. It is anyones guess, let's say ~10 points.
At this point, other factors can carry much more weight, such as newer accounts, low average age, inquiries, credit mix, and of course especially general and specific debt and utilization ratios.
You can have scores in the very high 700s with 8 30 day lates on your credit report, if everything else on your profile is in top shape.
It's been a while, but as I recall, I had a single 30 day late, and my scores went up around 25-30 points when it dropped off.
