I had a medical procedure down through the Sutter Health Medical Foundation in May, 2013. I believed at the time that there was an error in the bill and ended up not paying, the bill was for ~$1,700. SInce this time, the bill has been sent to UCSB for collections. It has not hit my credit score yet, but I am worried that it will eventually affect my credit score and I want to have it deleted.
I spoke with Sutter Health and they let me know that I could pay the bill in full, but there might be interest payments remaining with UCSB. I'm comfortable with paying off the entire bill but wanted to figure out the best strategy to deal with UCSB to not have this affect my credit score. Does anyone have suggestions on the best process?
Much appreciated!
Assuming you have the funds I'd suggest paying it and not quibbling over the interest charges - just make sure the payment arrangement includes the agreement that it not go on your reports.
Will I need to get this in writing? Or, since the calls are all recorded, should I be ok with a verbal agreement.

writing is preferrable but if your state allows recording of the call then that can replace an in writing agreement. You need to record the call they are not going to produce it for you on their end. A verbal agreement is enforcable as well. Welcome to My Fico ![]()
