Synchrony taketh then giveth back

I have had my paypal credit account since 2011. I have carried balances on it, paid off a few times, and maxxed it back out again. Not to encourage that, but hoping to give hope to anyone that is balance chased.

The last 6 months of 2023 due to a life event, I was at about 89% utilization across 16 cards. Paypal credit was along for the ride, maxed out with a CL of 2350 the whole time.

As soon as I was able to make a 350 payment, they balance chased me down to 2000.

I managed to get my utilization down to 23% (no easy feat for being 32k in cc debt two months ago!) and just one statement after them cutting my limit, I requested 3k and they gave it to me! My highest limit with Paypal credit ever. So don't get too discouraged with their tough love. It wasn't the first time they lowered my cl but hopefully the last!

Re: Synchrony taketh then giveth back

The ONLY CC I've ever had that credit chased me was Barclays. I had their Apple Rewards card back in the day and never had any issues with it. Then it switched to the Barclays View when they ended their partnership with Apple.

As soon as that happened, I had it it at about 70% utilization due to a medical bill and every month I paid $350 and every month, they continued to chase it from it's original 3K down to $800. They with time eventually raised it themselves back up to $1250 but have denied a CLI since. It's left a sour taste in my mouth with Barclays since. Even during COVID when companies were rolling back CL's to play it safe, I had no other card do it but Barclays.

Re: Synchrony taketh then giveth back

Synchrony did the same to me. However, was never late with my payments. And my utilitization exceeded 80% only during the 1 year of me purchasing a new home. In any case, I was very offended that they would lower my credit. So I did what I had to do to pay all three cards I had through them. Then I called them and demanded that they close all three accounts. I'd rather deal with a financial organization that values me as a customer/client and not play with my credit score (simply be a they can).

Re: Synchrony taketh then giveth back

I'm being balance chased , not by Syn but by Citi bank, I think it's because I was only paying minimum payments, Util was under 50%.

DH needed a car causing me to redo the budget.

Then surprise Cap1 followed too, CLD.

Meanwhile overall Util was under 30%.🤔
