Rcvd letter from Synergetic Communications offering a settlement for a repposession I have with Nissan Motor back on 2019 for $6k. Letter offer to settle for $2100.
I am reading horrible stories about the collection agency as a SCAM.
How should I handle this. I would love to take advantage of the settlement amount. Have the funds to pay.
Thanks for your assistance!
They've been in business for nearly 25 years so I'm guessing they're not a scam -- tho folks may not be very pleased with their business practices.
How old is the debt with Nissan?
Do you know if Nissan sold the debt to this collection agency or if they just assigned collection authority?
What is the statute of limitations for debt collection (SOL) in your state?

Debt is from Sept 2019 and from what I have read they are a third party debt collector, does not own the debt. I'm in Maryland and within my SOL.

So, since they have some sketchy reviews, I'd first call Nissan just to confirm that this collection agency is, indeed, working on their behalf and if so, absolutely take the offer and be done-- just be sure to keep proof of payment. Once paid, the agency should automatically inform Nissan that the debt is satisfied and Nissan should, in turn, update the tradeline on your reports to reflect a $0 balance.

Can I ask for a PFD?
I will tackle this today!

Is the collection agency reporting their own tradeline (so you have a tradeline from both Nissan and Synergetic on your reports)?
I got the impression that they weren't reporting their own tradeline because you asked if they were a scam...

No the collection agency is not reporting a traddline. Only Nissan is reporting on my reports.

OK then no, you cannot request a PFD. The collection agency has no authority to remove the original creditor's tradeline --nor can they promise you the original creditor will do so.
Once paid, you can begin a Goodwill Campaign directly to Nissan to try and have them remove their tradeline as a good faith gesture.
