Re: Too many CC applications at once?

Chad: such a LONG message! LOL... glad you got all those cards. I just read yor fico challenge bar, you raised your fico score by over 200 points, that's amazing! I am at 710,663... so pretty close to being prime, I am so excited!!!

With the explorer card i am fine with being a joint cardmember for a few reasons:

1. I really, really trust my bf (and also got paperwork from the bank to remove me just in case in the future to protect BOTH of us)

2. I am a 1K member with united, and I can reduce the yearly fee, and also if we use my ff# on the card, booking tickets will be with NO FEES- so it's cheaper together than to have two separate cards

3. makes it easier for us to travel together if all our points go to my account

I just got approved for a Capital One card, with $2000 limit, so I will garden that card too. Just excited all of this falls together now. I think after I get my autoloan, I'll chill out a bit.

Re: Too many CC applications at once?

my point is that all those benefits you mentioned, you get as an authorized user too. There is zero benefit to being a full co-signer on the card. Oh, and that piece of paper you mentioned you have from the bank, worthless... they will still hold you accountable for the card in any case and report it to the credit reporting agencies if you are on the account as a full co-signer. (unless that piece of paper is not what you think it is and it's just telling you that you are an authorized user).

Being an authorized user gives you all the benefits FICO-score and card-usage wise, without any of the responsibility. It's like people who refinance their homes to pay off credit card debt. Idiotic, why would you ever roll unsecured debt into a secured loan where you could possible lose your house. There's no benefit, you still owe the money, but defaulting on credit cards doesn't jeopardise your residence.

authorized user has nothing to do with trust. it's all about the logic of the situation. It could even potentially benefit him too if you were not accountable for that debt someday.

just sayin.
