Was just going through mail and there is a letter from Convergent for $117 from 2003! ELEVEN years ago from a hospital which I have never heard of. They are willing to "settle" for 50% the debt and I am just like **bleep**? It is not on my credit report but they letter says if I don't respond in 30 days they will assume this debt is valid. How do I go about this? I really do not want to waste time on something if I don't need to.
That's a tough call. Because it is past 7 years SOL etc. if they do report it, then you could dispute it. But if you feel that it is a legitimate debt, because the balance is so small, it might be easier / more convenient use of your time energy and money to just pay it as long as you feel its valid and you have an official payoff letter in writing. Otherwise you would have to fight it if they put it on your credit card, which can be really time consuming & annoying & frustrating & temporarily lower your score.
I think I will send them a DV letter on Monday. This hospital isn't even in the city that I live in. Or any of the 2 cities I have lived in for that matter.

Drop that letter in the trash while you laugh all the way to the can ROFLOL
2 things at play here
1) I know of no state they can sue after 11 years
2) They can't report Jack blank on your CR's unless they would like to pay you 1k for reporting inaccurate info to the CB's
