I wish I would of found this site a month ago when I started working on paying off debt. After 4 years of messing up our credit, I am now trying to repair it. Here is a breakdown of where we started and what I've done so far:
Mortgage: We have been behind for over 2 years. I paid the past due balance and next months payment last week. We are finally caught up and have a plan to stay that way.
Credit Cards: Orchard Bank, open, limit $700, current balance $500. I am working to pay this balance down since this is our only open credit card.
FIA/BOA: Closed, balance $1650.50. I was paying $50/mo for the past year and settled last week at $1230.50
Asset Recovery/Old Navy: Closed, balance $1628.95. I was paying $50/mo for the past year and settled at $1228.66 last week.
Alliance/HM Depot: Closed, balance $2481.70. Settled at $1844.00 last week.
Porfolio Recovery/Paypal: Closed, balance $650. Setttled at $381 last week.
Portfolio Recovery/Lane Bryant: Closed, balance $1037.54, settled at $619 last week.
There were a few other charged off/credit agency accounts that now have zero balances as well.
Since I settled some of our accounts prior to finding this site, what advice can you offer to help me get the items removed from my credit report?
Thanks!

Send GW letters. You will likely have success. It may take a few attempts. But I was able to remove almost all of my collection accounts after paying them via GW -- ome may be resistant, but that's really you only recourse.

Awesome! I will do a search for the letters and get some out the door TODAY! I wasn't sure if I could send them since I already settled!
Thanks!!

no need to do a search. just type up a personal letter asking for the removal of the account.. you are essentially asking for a favor, it can be personal, you can be polite ect ect
I am not a fan of most of the goodwill templates out there..

This is new to me. I will take your advice and get some out today!
Thanks again Scott!

Thanks again Scott!
Here is an example of how I would word it; something like this.
To Whom it May Concern
My name is Scott Blahblah, I am writing you in regards to account 1234567 which I settled for $928323.00 on June 17th, 1937.
I am asking your company for a good will adjustment on how my account is reporting to the major credit reporting agencies. While working with your company, I found your settlement terms extremely fair, and I as soon as I was able to settle this account, I did so immediately and without haggling. As I work to restore my financial future, I ask your company for compassion and removal of this account from current credit reporting.
Please be mindful, the FCRA does not require that you report this information, only that information that is reported is accurate, therefor your company does have the ability to remove this account, and I hope you consider this in my situation.
Regards
