Hello, All - I have been reading this forum for a while, and have found many useful information and encouraging stories. I was always one to take care of my credit, keep money in a savings account saved up for a rainy day, etc. Yet, being young and stupid, I figured that after buying my condominium and financing a new car, I was all set and would not need good credit for a while....so I went on a shopping spree (furniture and appliances for new home, computer, etc.) and then I found myself in a hole that took a long time to get out of, debt-wise. My debt is mostly under control now (only owe about $4K in an old charge-off to Macy's, which I am planning to pay off soon). Well, now that I am married and with a daughter, we would like to buy a bigger home in which to raise our kid, and have found a great opportunity that meets our need; yet my horrible credit history is affecting my ability to get approval for a mortgage. MyFico indicates my EQ score is 577.
I am determined to fix my credit by writing GW letters to my old creditors and a CA, but so far have had no luck, and even in some instance being counter-productive.
So far here is a log of my journey:
12/3/13 - Mailed GW letter via snail mail to Bank of America, Discover, Chase Auto, WF Mortgage, and GECRB (Amazon Card) to remove some 30's, 60's, 90's and 120's.
12/6/13 - Mailed GW letter to West Asset Management to removed a settled account.
12/9/13 - Received letter from WF Mortgage saying their records are accurate and won't make any adjustments.
12/15/13 - Emailed the WF Mortgage board a GW Letter.
12/19/13 - Mailed GECRB (Amazon Card) another GW Letter as the first one mailed on 12/3/13 came back as underiverable.
12/24/13 - Received letter from WF Mortgage saying they can't make any adjustments and that they have put a "dispute" comment in my credit reports which won't be removed until I ask.
12/24/13 - Received letter from Chase Auto saying their records are accurate and won't make any adjustments.
I am now getting ready to send another round of GW letters to Bank of America (no response so far), Chase Auto, Discover (no response so far) and WF Mortgage.
I'd like to try emails this time around, but cannot find any email contacts for those creditors, can anyone help with this, or have any other advise?
Thank you all and I will continue the good fight until success is achieved.
Are you disputing any accurate information? You shouldn't do that.
And I have seen that as far as goodwill letters go, persistence usually works.
I think you should try that with your Macy's card since you said its charged off.
Also, Hello and welcome to the forums!
You need to ask WF to remove that comment.
Many creditors will use a GW as a dispute whether it states you are not disputing or not. For whatever reasons, they treat GW letters as a dispute. And they should not.
How does your GW letter read?
I've only GWed HSBC and BBVA Compass, but with each one it only took a single request to remove a 30 day late. However, in both cases my letter admitted my mistakes and explained how I'd taken steps to better stay on top of my responsibilities.
Just a thought, but perhaps your letter isn't sticking the right tone.
