Has anyone had success in resolving an issue of two collection agencies attempting to collect on the same debt? If so, could you share with me what you did that worked to resolve at least one or both of these CA on your credit report?
i would personally send them both DV letters but lets see if the experts weigh in on this
2 collection agencies can't collect for the same debt. You need to contact the OC and find out who is suppose to have the account or if they have turned it over to a collection agency. At that point send DV's to them.
+!
However, that does not mean that two collections cannot be in your CR based on the same debt. A first debt collector who has had their collection authority terminated or who has sold the debt to another debt collector is not required to delete their prior reporting.
The key is simultaneous collection activity on the same debt, not plural reporting on the same debt. Usally, when contacted by a second debt collector, you will find that the first debt collector is no longer actively collecting.
If unsure, then do as advised and send a DV to both. If one is no longer collecting, the DV request to them will simply be moot, as their is no collection ongoing collection activity upon which they are concerned about a cease collection bar. They will just ignore it.
