Two Judgments-same debt

Short story. Lived in one State and while relocating to another a judgment (credit card) was filed in first State. I was unaware this. Later, another judgment for same debt was filed in current State. I immediately paid this judgment and it is noted as paid on CR. The initial judgment still shows as unpaid. I contacted the CR's without success. Who should I contact? The creditor? County Clerk? This is my only blemish and it"s several years old. What is my best move with this?

Thank you.

It *sounds* as though the plaintiff domesticated the original judgment in your current, local court system. So, I'm assuming that your current state is "foreign judgment friendly." :/

I'm 99% sure that you'll have to ask the plaintiff to file a release with the original court (not the same, in most states, as a vacatur -- it's just letting the first court know that the debt's been satisfied and to report as "satisfied" or "paid" or "released" (depending on the CRA).

Or, you can get the court docs from your local court and file the release yourself with the originating court. How to do that depends on the state. I'd call the Clerk of Court's office of the originating court and ask the particulars on how to do it.

How long ago was it filed? It will only remain for 7 years from filing date.

Re: Two Judgments-same debt

Do you suggest I just leave it alone and wait for it to fall off? It will actually be removed before the paid item is scheduled for removal. Again, I'm a newbie and appreciate any direction I can get. Thank you.
