I have two big issues I need help with on my credit reports... I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in November of 2005. Now that it's off my records, I'm trying to get a loan and have two big issues with my credit reports:
Ohio State Tax Lien
A lien was filed against me and my wife in September of last year. We didn't find out about until January. It was for $25. We paid it immediately. Recently, I got my credit report and found it was still listed there. I was turned down for the loan because of it. Now I find this will sit on my credit report for 7 years. I just got finished going through 10 years with a bankruptcy on my record. Now my wife and I won't get credit for anything for 7 years because of $25?
Lack of Open Accounts
My credit report also shows very little else. I have a first and second mortgage on my primary residence, plus a car loan (4 payments remaining). Most of the other open accounts are in my wife's name only. What can I do and how many open accounts are considered sufficient? Do I get some of my wife's accounts listed in my name too?
The lien you can file a motion to vacate since you obviously didnt get notification and paid it. I've done it successfully with collectors (im in Ohio too). Pretty simple process. Second genera consensus is you need 3 revolving accounts...I would try the cap 1 pre-qual website to see if you pre-qualify (no hard pulls until you accept offer) if you do you should be able to get 2 cards for 1 pull of your reports (they pull all 3). prob platinum and quicksilver 1. Try your best to stay away from first premier and credit one...fees are crazy..believe me I have/had one. Some others may chime in as well but I would focus on getting a motion to vacate the lien and then get some cards since if you get it vacated your score should jump a bit. Hope I helped.
Makes me feel a little better... how do I file a motion to vacate?
Once the tax is paid, the state of Ohio will issue the debtor a Release and Satisfaction of Judgment form. You must file this form at the county clerk’s office to have the lien removed, and you must pay the filing fee and costs. At that point you can begin the process of dealing with your credit report.
dealing with the Bureaus is the issue I was successful with equifax and Trans union...Experian not so much..I think they hate me on a very personal level

I agree with Supra about trying to avoid Credit One, but don't beat yourself up if you need to get one. That's where my husband had to start. I can't even get approved for one.
No one needs to go through Predator One. Decent Secured cards are out there and available and WILL get you to a point where you can get unsecured cards.
Try OpenSky - no credit check and not as bad as Preditor One!
I paid off the lien in January of 2015. I got some sort of release letter and filed it with the local clerk of courts. The lien shows as being paid. Was there a separate form I should have gotten?

^^^Agree with this as well...we all have to start somewhere. With that said focus on that lien and its removal...once removed you should see a nice score jump. Speaking of which do you know what your fico scores are?
