Re: Two questions regarding disputing for a newbie

Going into great detail is absolutely necessary when seeking credit-related help and advice.  Every profile & situation differs, so knowing the details only helps streamline the advice offered to better suit your specific circumstance.

In this case - understanding why you chose to dispute the medical collections will avoid the "don't dipsute valid tradelines" conversation.

I do have another question regarding my student loans. I consolidated these and they are in good standing. My paid/closed accounts are still on my report. How can I get these removed? They are also over 7 years old. But they are closed so I'm a little confused and not finding much help searching for answers.

Actually going into detail does assist the forum with answering your questions the best we can. It is always best to have all the information.

If it's an account that was closed in good standing then it can stay on your credit for 10 years. I have an old account from rent to own furniture. I had forgot about it until I saw it on my CR. It's my oldest account and it's a positive.

Re: Two questions regarding disputing for a newbie

I guess I was under the assumption that people don't just dispute things  for illegitimate reasons?

So, I do apologize and thank you for the advice. In regards to the loans, the one that is in good standing is the consolidated loan. The loans that are included in this loan are still on my CR as paid/closed. Do those effect the overall score?

Oh... haha... nope.  Happens all the time -- and backfires 95% of the time.

No worries & you're welcome!

So the individual loans  -  were they positive prior to consolidation or do they show some negative payment history?

All closed accounts affect your FICO scores.   If they were never late prior to consolidation, then those are considered positive tradelines which are adding to your positive payment history, credit mix, and contributing to the age of your credit file.

Re: Two questions regarding disputing for a newbie

I guess my initial question wasn't whether I should or shouldn't dispute, but what happened with the dispute as I have yet to receive a result email? I am interested in where these case from and I may be incorrect on them like if they were labeled as this, but reflect this. If that makes sense. But I understand the responses better now.

The original loans were in good standing and some were in forbearance as I was still in school.

Should I contact the original lender in this case to ask for them to be removed? Some of them were from 2009 so that's over 10 years.

Yes - that was clear from your first post - but what wasn't clear is why you disputed them in the first place --  knowing that could help determine possible reasons for the tradeline disappearing on one of the bureaus without a dispute resolution.  Has it been 30 days since you initiated the dispute?  If not, then perhaps the dispute investigation is not yet complete.

In any event -- unfortunately, I/we can't answer your Q about why you have not received a results email,  nor can I/we answer why the Transunion email link did not provide any dispute resolution information - could be a glitch?  All we can do is guess so your best bet is to contact the bureaus directly by phone to find out the results.

NO.  Leave the loans alone.  Let them stay.  It's ~10 years from the date they were closed, not the date they were originally opened -- and sometimes the purging system misses an account so it stays for longer than the 10 years.   But they are helping you, not hurting in any way whatsoever --   is there a reason as to why you're so bent on having them removed?

Honestly, you should be grateful they exist and hope that they remain for as long as possible   -  removal could (likely would) cause your scores to drop -- dramatically.   I could say definitively how your scores would respond to removal of those old loans if I knew more about what was on your credit report.

Re: Two questions regarding disputing for a newbie

Ok I will leave them alone. I guess I just thought I needed a clear credit report, so I had the wrong idea.

I do have one cc I'm paying down, an at&t bill I'm paying down and an OB bill I didn't realize I missed last year after birthing twins. Other than that, I have the student loans. I will leave the loans alone. Do you think it would be wise to contact the collectors to confirm they will remove this before I finish paying them off. Or try a gw after?

Closed accounts can stay on your credit up to 10 years minimum if closed in good standing (not charged off, in collections, etc).

Do they have lates attatched to them reporting past 7 years?

If they don't and are in good standing, they are only helping you. They increase your AAoA. Is there a reason you want them off your CRs?

like mentioned, the best way to find out about them is to contact the CAs or OCs listed on your CRs. Everytime they update them (or remove them and then re-add them), your score takes a hit. Getting the info straight from the source will get you more answers than disputes. Disputing only updates the info listed, but does not give you the info you seek to find out where they came from. They are only saying, "yup, these are yours!"

Good luck! We are only trying to help, sorry if it seemed like I was being offensive.
