My spouse has a 2019 charge off credit card with USAA with a 2,000.00 balance. We were advised by the collection agency ACI that USAA would not accept less than 50% even though we offered almost 38% which is all we have currently to give them. My spouse is unemployeed and money is very tight but we do not want to get sued over this debt down the road and have to pay more. Is there anyway they would be willing to accept less than 50% even though they are saying they will not? Does USAA usually sue over charged off credit card debt? My spouse has other charge offs but this is the largest one and therefore the most worrysome. Thank you for any advice you can give.
Your debt is still fairly recent so they'll be a bit hardlined in trying to recoup as much as possible while they still have an option to take legal action. There aren't many reports of usaa suing individuals tho - but they may eventually sell the debt and the collection agency that purchases it may sue if its still within the statute of limitations for debt collection in your state.
Can you maybe pay a portion of the 50% now and work out a payment plan for the remainder?
