Update on first big steps!!!

Ok so I took a couple steps to helping rebuild my credit.. I opened a Cap1 Secured card with a $200 limit. I also did the fingerhut freshstart and paid of the balance as soon as it posted.. Just a FYI with the fresh start.. If you pay it off as soon as it post you may not be eligible for the revolving credit because it doesn't show your capable of paying on-time payments.. But i contacted customer support and did a review and approved me for $200 revolving credit.

So i have $400 total now in credit. Now im wondering what my next step should be.

I pulled my FICO score and they are  EQ:567  TU:597  EX:565

I tried to pull them a few weeks ago and FICO said i didn't have enough history.. Based off what CK said i had a EQ:468   TU:465

So that's progress. I haven't done anything with the $2405 joint account in collections or the $1340 for a electric bill my mom opened right when i turned 18.

I guess i'm wondering what my next step should be. I have a balance of $125 on Cap1 card because i went on outta town on vacation and spent a little extra in my drunken nights lol. I'm paying it down Friday which should jump my scores more.

Should i try to get another secured card or deposit more towards the Cap1 card?

First time I'm giving advice so I could be wrong but I think you should have your Cap One report a smaller balance or even 0 because of that collection, and take care of the Collection ASAP.

If you have an opportunity to join NFCU, do it, do it NOW. Just open a basic savings account for $25 now. Once you scores have risen you will be glad you have them behind you.

Should i try to get another secured card or deposit more towards the Cap1 card? Get a second card, secured if necessary. Then get a third. Three is generally considered the minimum for effective rebuilding.

Re: Update on first big steps!!!

I think I'm gonna join NFCU and open a savings.. Me and the GF are gonna start saving up for a house and need a joint account

What other secured card should I GET? Id prefer one that graduated.. Maybe BOA.. Then if my credit doesn't increase enough for a unsecured card save up and get a secured through NFCU

Re: Update on first big steps!!!

Don't get hung up on getting secured cards that graduate. Get what you can get. As long as you use them wisely, don't let them carry a large balance month to month, and pay them early and often every single month, you scores WILL progress upwards as you move on from your early mistakes. Once your scores improve get the better cards and you can close these out.

Re: Update on first big steps!!!

It was a apartment me, my GF and brother got when we moved out from our parents.. They took advantage of us with a "special discount rate" because the apt needed improvements.. They ended up charging us for those improvements when we moved out.. They kept our deposit and sent us a bill for $2400.. We were young and dumb.. My girlfriends uncle is a lawyer and started to help us out but he never really did anything so we let it go

OK, just wanted to make sure that was not a credit card CO that would mess up your UTI.
