Utilities Collection - Which Way To Go

I have a utilities collection (UGI- Penn Natural Gas). I thought the account was taken care off as I continued to use them but apparently not. It is showing on my credit report in collections with a local company called Berks. I dont know where to begin? Should I call UGI to verify the debt and see if they still own the debt. Could I offer to pay the balance in full and have the Berks collection removed from my file.

If the CA is reporting, DV the CA. If they verify and you agree send a PFD to the CA.

I didn't realize utility companies did that....as far as sending your (old?) balances to a CA and still allowing you to use their service?
