Need Advice,
My utilization is just messed up. I have two cards right now...HSBC for $300 and Capital One for $300. Both cards are paid on time and now both cards are paid in full. The issue is that I have 2 accounts reporting from First Premier Bank from 2006 and 2 from First Saving Bank of South Dakota that are negative from almost 5-6 years ago. All of these accounts are charged off by the way. Premier Bank is reporting one account for $609 on $300 limit and another $532 on $300 Limit. First Savings Bank is reporting $352 on $250 limit and $714 on $500 limit. None of the accounts are charged off so they are reporting a balance. Of course all 4 of those cards have a balance of now almost $2200 on limits of $1450...if you add my two good accounts now and even if they are PIF I'm still over 100% utilization...I thought that charged off accounts cannot carry a balance since that balance has been sold to CA or written off.
The 4 accounts are going to be off my credit end of 2013 and latest 2/2014.
The OC (original creditor) can still show a balance if they still own the acct or hired a CA (collection agency) to collect it for them. Once the OC sells the debt, they must report a $0 balance. If the OC is reporting the balance then they still own it. First Premier is known for not selling accts but rather having their in house CA collect them. This is bad for the consumer who is trying to rebuild even years later as the original acct will show a balance and you will have a CA reporting the debt as well.
That is what I got from the CSR at First Premier about an old acct I had charge of 4-5 years ago. I called them recently and told the lady that I wanted to pay them, not the CA. She said she cant do that over the phone, the payment must be made to the CA. However, if I mail a payment to FP to their normal billing address they will accept it and it will be cashed and paid to FP not the CA. This is what I was told. They have cashed the check, but not yet updated my report.
