Vacating judgements

Is there a way to get a judgement vacated, even though you don't live in the same state that the judgments were made?  DH and I each have 2 judgements appiece.  They were ordered in NJ and now we live in NC.  One of my judgements is paid, but the other one as well as DH's 2 were ordered after we moved from NJ to NC.  Can we try something here in NC, or would we have to file in NJ?  If we have to go to NJ, we would file a motion to vacate providing that we pay the debts owed before we were to go to court.  What do you think?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!Smiley Happy

Re: Vacating judgements

Another question...

How can we get copies of judgements ordered?  I tried to find the answer on NJ's state website, but I found nothing.  Thanx again in advance for your help.

Re: Vacating judgements

You can get copies of the judgment by contacting the court it was filed in.

If you were not properly served, then you can file a motion to vacate. I am not sure if there are any other reasons for filing.

Yup...that would be it.   We had moved to from NJ to NC before the judgements were filed.  Any other creditor that was looking for us knew hat we had moved, so I'm not sure why we weren't served down here.  Thanx for the reply.Smiley Happy

Re: Vacating judgements

Hi!

Did you find much help in vacating judgments in NJ?  I am in the same situation as you, I moved and evidentally the judgment notices were mailed to my old address and now I live 5 hours away.  I can't find any info on if I have to travel back to NJ to file the motion to vacate or if I can start the process from here.  I just started making a list of lawyers in nj to call that hopefully can help.  If multiple trips up are required, it'd be cheaper to just get a lawyer I think.  Please let me know if you found out if you can mail forms in etc.  Monmouth County Courts have been no help to me.  thanks!
