Verizon is very aggressive in their collections and reporting. I did manage to get a Verizon collection removed but it was not easy and took a joint effort of BBB, CFPB and Facebook posts (plus the threat of suit by me) - note that the account was NOT mine and had been inactive for several years and it still was difficult.
If the account was not yours, and was opened by someone using your name, then you can get it blocked from your credit report by using the identity theft process outlined in FCRA 605B and discussed in detail in the sticky-thread in the upper portion of the General Credit Topics forum.
See 63922 Federal Register / Vol. 69, No. 212 / Wednesday, November 3, 2004 / Rules and Regulations, for a detailed discussion of what consitutues “identity theft.” under the FCRA. In general, the rules define identity theft as an unlawful use of your identity, or use without your consent.
Did the other party lawfully, or with your consent, use your identity?
if so, then how was it "unauthorized"?
If not williing or able to assert identity theft, then you have no recourse to blocking of the information from your credit report.
