Verizon Collections Help

Hi , I am new to this board and want to thank you for all the great info you post to help people out.

I had an account go into collections with verizon in Sept. 2008.  I paid off the balance and closed my account with them.(or so I thought)  Well the next couple months the wierdest thing happened,  I kept getting bills in the mail showing zero balance.(unfortunately discarded these bills).  Fast forward to Feb. 2009 then i get a letter saying that another $108 is being put into collections.  After calling Verizon customer service and explaining the situation they said that the first collection was for my long distance service.  They insisted that I had only cut my long distance service off with them in Sept.  I tried to discuss the account with them but they said they could not do anything for me because the account had already been sent to a CA.  My question is what can I really do at this point?  I already have paid the CA as i did not know anything about PFDs or anything like that before reading this site. I have 2 collections reporting on my CR for the same account can they do this?  Is my only option to GW?  Please help.

Re: Verizon Collections Help

Verizon usually uses NCO and if that is the case NCO usually accepts a PFD and will delete it after it is paid in my experience. Good Luck!!

Re: Verizon Collections Help

They are listed as 2 different charge-off accounts for one verizon telephone number and account number.  They are claiming one is for long-distance and one is for the standard phone service. The first one is listed as a paid charge-off of $62.50.  The other reports a paid charge-off of $108.  Unfortunately,  NCO was not the CA , Penn Credit Corporation is the CA.
