We have been working on repairing and rebuilding my husbands credit in order to purchase a home in the spring of 2013 but it seems like his scores are just stuck where they are now. We have made payment arrangements to pay off all his collections (all medical, and all with the same CA) but they refuse to delete them once they are paid. We have paid off a CO that was also judgment and I have been asking nicely for months if they would please delete the original trade line but so far they have not agreed to do that. We are currently paying monthly payments towards a settlement offer on another CO, that will be paid out in Feb. 2013. I have paid our CC down to 7% so I don't think I'm going to see anymore score increases from that ( at least, I didn't this month... Not even one point!) We have three installment loans that are current and have never been late. The balances on those are... 8,400...1,700... And 700. I plan on having the smaller one and the larger one paid out before we even try to buy a home.
But I just don't know what to do anymore to get his scores to go up. Getting another CC is not an option right now, seeing that we would like to purchase a home in six months and we really don't want another CC. Will paying the installment loans off and the CO be helpful to his score? Are we at the point where we just have to let time do the rest? Of course, I'm going to keep trying to get things deleted but if they keep refusing.... Then I don't know what more to do.
If the CO's have balances then paying them may give you a slight score increase, if they have balances then they are factored into you UTL. Keep GW'ing any CO that has been paid or has 0 balance. The judgment, has it been satisfied?
Yes, the judgment is listed as satisfied.
Ok good. Reach out to the court house and find out what the process is and cost of filing a motion to vacate it.
If the attorney that orginally got the judgment has to be the one to file the motion, reach out to them, you may have to offer to pay them the filing fee and maybe even a little for their time. Getting the judgment off will give you a bump in score.
Thanks hdrider, I'm gonna give that a try. Just sent out two more GWs, maybe I might get lucky this time. I'm not giving up!
I had a judgment, offered to pay them the filing fee and then for 30 minutes of their time. To me it was worth it and the agreed, so I know it can be done.
Stay on it, all of it. I have gotten my report clean except for 1 item, been GWing them for months and they wont budge but I will keep sending GW's every 2 weeks until one of us gives in or the 7yr time frame hit haha
Lol I agree! Hopefully they get tired of hearing from me and just give me the GW. Sad part is, we only need 20 more points. The CO that's gonna be paid out in Feb. in large but I'm not sure if I'm going to see that much of a score increase from it.
I am not an expert by far, but I have known people who have disputed the collection account with the CRA's after it is satisfied. Often you can find small discrepancies on an account then dispute it for inaccuracy, well if the account is satisfied the creditor may not take the time to correct the information and it will just get deleted. Worth a try, worst case your still in the same boat with a paid collection on the file.
Also, IMO it maybe a good idea to get a new card also. Since you are shooting for spring of 2013, if you get a card now you could have 6 months of another positive tradeline reporting. That does not mean you have to shop with it. You can get it and buy a coffee, then pay the bill and you will still get the same results. Everybody's file is different but My scores have been consistently climbing for the past 6 months(see my saggy). I did get a deletion or two (I still have several baddies) as well but they were all at least five years old already so the majority of my movement is this positive reporting.
GoodLuck!
Getting that judgment off will probably give you the 20 points.
The impact of removal of a major derog is dependent upon what remains in the credit file, and thus varies by consumer.
While any major derogs remain, the file is still in a "dirty" categorization, which keeps scoring in a less desirable "bucket."
Major bump from deletion of a major derog is usually seen when it is the last major, and the file thus becomes "clean."
