What should I do with this charge off?

So, I've been working on trying to rebuild my credit the past few years now that I have the means to do so.

I had a couple of collections that I finally got paid off and are waiting for deletion. My only issue right now is that I have a charged off account that is really bringing down my score I think.

It's for FIRST PREMIER BANK- CHARGE OFF $1130 LEAVING CREDIT REPORT 05/2026

What are my best optioins for finally dealing with this? I first looked into it a few years ago but decided to focus on getting my collections paid off since those I knew I could get deleted off my CR. I know charge offs don't get deleted from First Premier, but I assume paying will at least help in some way? Or is letting it fall off better? Would paying in installments work or would it have to be a lump sum? I don't want to accidentally restart the clock on the deletion or reopen the card. I just want to know if paying it would have any effect on my score and what the best option for dealing with this is.

A CO reporting monthly with a past due balance is definitely hurting your score. Paying it off or settling it will help, especially for a CO that old (assuming 5 years old if falling off in 2026). Once it stops reporting a fresh CO monthly that helps, too as it will finally age - assuming it is reporting monthly.

By contacting the OC, you won't reset the clock on falling off the report as it goes by Date Of First Deliquency, which will not change when you finally pay/settle it. HOWEVER, be aware that some OCs will take legal action on past due debt prior to the SOL on collecting debt. Depending on your state, when was the last time you paid/acknowledged it, etc this could be done on something you'd consider old. I don't know what the SOL is in your state or if First Premier does this, but you should be aware. By offering to pay/settle/negotiate (you can offer a percentage to make it go away), you would avoid any potential legal action and see some points on your score before it falls off.

Hope that helps! Good luck!
