I started rebuilding my credit in May 2015 (Started repaying student loan in 14, but really started rebuilding all together in 15)
I had 3-6 things in collections ranging from Medical bills to BestBuy movies never returned.
This is my story.
2009-10
I let my student loans go into default, and they were transfered to the Gov.
Constantly late on my auto loan (I put down $3000, as well as accepted a 18.9% interested rate at 4.5 years.... ugh).
2011-2013
Never cared about credit, paid cash for everything. Started to try and get credit cards and was constantly denied. I was completely irresponsible and started to take notice how important certain things are in life. This is where it changed.
2014-
I was able to get my student loans on a payment plan.
2015-
Student loans get picked up my FedLoans after 9 months straight of no late payments or missing payments
Started to send PFD to all the collection companies.
Putting money down, I was able to get 3 secured credit cards (local credit union, creditone, and capital one). 500, 300, 250 Limits.
Paid off that Awful auto loan that was at a 18.9% rate.
2016-
As of last month I have no more collections under any Credit Agency.
My student loans have been paid consistently for the past year and half, and as of yesterday I only have 1,200 left!!
My credit card limits have all been raised to 500.
Scores:
Transunion- May'15 580 / Feb 16'- 666
Experian- May '15' 587 / Feb 16'-667
Equifax-May '15' 590 / Feb 16'-663
It took a little while and alot of growing up to do, but slowly my credit is raising to what I want it to be. My goal is above 700 before I try for my first home loan in 2017.
I did have a question,
#1- I have around 4-7 Late payment marks on my old auto loan, is there anyway that I can get those off? If so, what avenue should I take?
#2- Also, my student loans went from higher education, to government, to nelnet, to fedloans. Only fedloans show current up to date info. All the others show Over 190 days late, transferred to either Government or collections, with a $0 balance. Is this correct? Shouldn't they all say the same thing as in just transferred, not over 190 days late?
#3- I have around 7-8 hard inquiries that I never authorized from last year. I disputed them but they keep coming back with info verified and they stay on. How do I get them off?
#4- Any advice on how to continue to raise my credit even higher?
Thank you all for your help.
Are they collection inquiries? If not, who are the inquiries from?
