What to do with response from AFNI

I DV'd afni months ago, just like all the other people here they sent me a letter stating that they need more info. I'm not about to give them my personal information such as my ss# or dob. Anyway I recieved what is suppose to be validation that the debt from MCI is my, but all it has is my name and an address where I live years and years ago. The portion that is suppose to have my ss is x'ed out and there is nothing indicating that I owe this bill. Not to mention that it was never paid on according to the documents they gave me. I would file a police report for ID theft, but I don't live in that state anymore. Any suggestions?

Thanks, and I'll continue searching the boards for ideas.

Re: What to do with response from AFNI

Are you saying you never had service with MCI at that address?

Have you tried contacting MCI to get service dates? Service dates may be what you need to prove where you lived when the service was provided.

I'm speaking with MCI at this very moment. I'm making sure that I get her name and ext just in case. The weird thing about it is that AFNI has several accounts listed under my name for various phone services all with similiar dates. I've decided to contact the OC's that are listed before I deal with them any further. I don't know I should do if the OC's aren't able to help.

Re: What to do with response from AFNI

OK, hopefully this will not come back to bite me in the you know what, but I just spoke with a rep from MCI and informed her that AFNI has been trying to collect on a debt that is not mine. She asked for my mailing addres and nothing else so that she could send me paperwork because she is doing a credit request on the account. According to her she will contact AFNI request that they stop coming after me for this debt that is not mine. I have the date and time of the phone call along, but only haver her name. According to her they don't have extentions, but she said it should all be resolved in 7-10 business days. Now, I have 3 more AFNI accounts to deal with, hopefully they will be just as painless.

Re: What to do with response from AFNI

I did a DV as well and got the "more information" letter as well.  It's a bunch of BS, I don't have to provide any info to them to validate.  I filed a FTC complaint online and sent AFNI another letter with a copy to FTC.  If they can't validate, they can't pursue debt collection, reporting it to CRA's constitutes a debt collection activity.

If I don't get a response, I'm going the BBB and their state attorney general, and continue to follow up with FTC.  I'll look into small claims as well.  I got NCO to delete, I'm not paying AFNI one red cent.
