When should I check my FICO scores on myFICO?

A lot of positive things have happened in my credit reports this month:

  • Removal of a 30 day late payment from Ford Motor Credit from 2005
  • Change in Payment Status for four previously defaulted student loans (have since been rehabilitated) from 120 days late to Current
  • Balance on $1,000 limit credit card going from $916 to $0
  • Balance on $800 limit cc going from $453 to $0
  • Balance on $750 limit cc going from $433 to $0
  • Balance on $1,000 limit cc going from $842 to $682
  • My one and only Collection being removed from my reports
All these things have happened in this month (2/2011). I got a ScoreWatch alert on 2/14 showing my score had dropped 6 points. Happy Valentine's Day to me, eh? I realize it might have been a bucket move. But now that all the stuff in the above list is showing on my reports (just checked, and I'm thrilled!) I am dying to know if my scores have jumped at all.
SO HERE IS MY QUESTION, FINALLY: Should I wait for a ScoreWatch email, or should I pay for updated scores now? I understand ScoreWatch can be notoriously slow, and I need some satisfaction!
Maybe I'm really jumping the gun here and my scores haven't yet changed, or maybe they won't even change all that much.

Re: When should I check my FICO scores on myFICO?

Congratulations on all you've accomplished in such a short amount ot time!

I realize you want to know as soon as possible about score changes but I would wait for SW to update. You don't want to pay for a score if all the new balances and information haven't cleared the CRA's yet.

When you do find out something be sure and let everyone know.

+1

No reason to pay for a new score every time you feel the changes will have an impact. Many times the reports aren't all updated the same time and you may not see any changes. A little patience will save you a little bit of money. lol

Re: When should I check my FICO scores on myFICO?

I truly did try! At least I had the presence of mind to use a coupon code! Smiley Tongue

I do a bit of glass blowing and writing on the side (to supplement my corporate job) and just as I was begging the universe for a sign (Should I check? Should I wait?), I sold a tutorial.

That was all I needed for full-blown rationalization. LOL!

Re: When should I check my FICO scores on myFICO?

It's nice to know you, too!

I'm really in a pretty good position: My debt basically consists of $20K in rehabilitated student loans, a Wells Fargo $7,700/$6,600/0% line of credit for my roof replacement last summer (which could NOT wait another year) and one credit card balance of $682.23, which will be paid off in the next month-ish.

I own my home outright. My cars are paid off and well-maintained with low miles on them, and I have no plans for a car loan anytime soon.

No collections. No judgements.

The bad things right now consist of lates showing on the original, defaulted student loans (2006) and the fact the Wells Fargo line of credit shows up as a credit card (ouch). No way I could say no to 0% interest though. At that point in time, I would have been lucky to get ANY offer of credit, much less 0%.

The irony here is that I want to get a HELOC to fix my kitchen and bathroom. They're horrible and not functional. Then I will be happy. Probably  Smiley Wink

Re: When should I check my FICO scores on myFICO?

I'm guilty of paying TOO much money for my FICO scores.  I was disappointed when my accounts weren't updated correctly.  I'm waiting as well.  I know it can make u anxious.  I am too.

You are tackling each one of your problems and ridding yourself of the debt at the same time and accomplishing it is what matters.

I own my home outright. My cars are paid off and well-maintained with low miles on them, and I have no plans for a car loan anytime soon. This was a great accomplishment in itself!

No collections. No judgements. I don't think you will put yourself in this situation. Seems you are in control.

The bad things right now consist of lates showing on the original, defaulted student loans (2006) (If have tried the GW route with no success keep trying, you have nothing to lose as in time will fall off anyway) and the fact the Wells Fargo line of credit shows up as a credit card (ouch)(This can hurt a little but you seem to be on the right path in paying things off). No way I could say no to 0% interest though. At that point in time, I would have been lucky to get ANY offer of credit, much less 0%. You are making great strides and you deserve to reward yourself.

The irony here is that I want to get a HELOC to fix my kitchen and bathroom. They're horrible and not functional (Now how are you going to entertain your guest? You will make it happen I have confidence in you). Then I will be happy. Probably  Smiley Wink  I hope you are happy also. You deserve to be with the accomplishments you have done.
