Re: collection debt?

I have a piggy back question if you don't mind. What if the original creditor is reporting every month as well as the CA. Will the creditor stop reporting monthly once I pay a collection account?

I'm confused about that.

If the OC is also reporting it gets a little more involved. You should always get in touch with the original creditor to verify if they still own the debt. If they do, ask them if they will recall the debt from the CA in exchange for PIF. If they agree to that, then the CA no longer has authority to report & must remove their derog from your CRs.

If the OC forces you to deal with the CA, then try a PFD with the CA. If they agree and delete their derog, then go back to the OC with a GW campaign.

I'm seeing a lot about a goodwill (GW) campaign.  What exactly is that?  Is it writing the collector after the debt has been paid begging and pleading them to have it deleted from your report?  I've got a few baddies I'm looking to take care of, hopefully with PFD's.  If not though, I might settle with them and try the GW campaign, whatever that is.  I feel my scores would leap from the 690 range to low-mid 700's if those three ($3k, $1.5k and $1.4k) baddies disappeared.

Re: collection debt?

I had a medical debt that showed up on my report last fall. I contacted the collection agency and set up an auto pay each month. $1600 debt... $200/month for 8 months. When my first autopay kicked in, it fell off my report and my score went up. Make sure they'll do pay to remove.
