multiple accounts with same CA - will they notice the others if i work on just one at a time?

Okay, I have more than one collections account with CBJ CREDIT RECOVERY and also with THE CREDIT BUREAU INC. I was wondering (and these are mixed) I have some collections with no balance, and some with(a balance) for each of these 2 CA's - if I start the process of DVing one account at a time, do u think they would sit up and take notice of the other accounts that are on thier records with me? Should I referr to multiple accounts on one DV or should I give each account it's own DV and each of the paid old accounts thier own GW letters? What do you think?

I'm willing to bet their system is setup to pull all accounts when one is accessed. I work collections and most do.

From past experiences, it WILL wake the dead or open Pandora's Box for you.  Typically they do tie all of them to your SSN.

yeah but if I don't give them my ssn - just the account numbers they can't necessarily link them....can they?

Yes they can!!  Your SS is on all accounts that they have.

Check all the dates DOFD/DOLA  from the OCs reporting. And be sure that they are not medical.

Re: multiple accounts with same CA - will they notice the others if i work on just one at a time?

OKay, so I found a way to "dispute" any potentially negative items on my CR. I did it through EX - the CRA I use regularly. I realize I will probably have to do this AGAIN with TU an EQ, but I think I have to call them directly to see when drop off dates are and to dispute them. I figure if the CRA's are doing the confirming it shouldn't be quite so dangerous as going through a CA and asking. (God I hope I'm right). I have some verified by e-mail already, but without origional account numbers of each bill. And a few did end up coming up with some drop-off dates.  I guess for the accounts that are closed and not yet verified I have to wait 30 days to see if they drop off of my CR. Sheesh I hope i'm doing this right. I'm SO afraid of making the first wrong move

I had to go through them again to double check, but the 3 that aren't verified are the ones with no balance listed. Hmmm. The other ones come with account #'s and all seem to be medical realated, small co-pays and such lost in time. Do I still go through the pre-hippa letters to get origional account numbers from the places of service? Or will the one that the collection agency has listed work?

Re: multiple accounts with same CA - will they notice the others if i work on just one at a time?

in my experience with ca they will apply your payment to whatever account with them that they want as that happened to me and they even had one that was trying to collect for merchandise i never received but they applied payment to that account even while it was in dispute

this brings me to another point that if one of multiple accounts with the same agency is in dispute then it is better to not try to pay any as if they will apply payment to the disputed account as a trick to void your dispute so they can show a judge when they sue you that you affirmed the account by making a payment

Section 810 of the FDCPA spells out how payments are handled in the case of multiple debts.

If any consumer owes multiple debts and makes any single

payment to any debt collector with respect to such debts, such

debt collector may not apply such payment to any debt which

is disputed by the consumer and, where applicable, shall apply

such payment in accordance with the consumer’s directions.
