i already filled out the request form to get a extended fraud alert and i even included the police report number but experian only processed for a 90 day alert and in the mailing they tell me that they need the police report but in my area all they give you is the report number and not a official form with the police department logo
i already gave them what they are asking for to get the extended alert for the 7 years and i need help actually making them do it
i mean what do they expect me to do--fly out there with a member of the police department and instruct them in person how things are done in south dakota because we do not get official report forms in this state only numbers and that is the way they do things
you can get an extended fraud alert for 7 years?????
why would you want to get one for that long? i would think a year would be enough time to make sure you are past any troubles.
where did you learn about this extended alert? thanks for the info.
Some states charge a fee to get a hard copy of the report. Contact your police dept and ask for records division, tell them why you need hard copy and how much is it to get it. Insurance companies do this all the time, unless S Dakota has some unknown law against copies.

in my state never give a copy of the actual report for anything and all they give out is the report number
i asked for the copy of the report and all i was told is it is our policy to only give out the report number and copies of the actual report is only available to the district attorney
also the ca did not put the alert on for a year as 90 days is much less than a year
Have you tried explaining why you need the report?
Can you get a written statement as to why you they wont give you a report that you can send to EX?
Have you tried to get a copy from the DA?

i hope you didn't misunderstand me. i wasn't saying they had given you a year, i was saying that in my opinion, you shouldn't need an alert for more than a year. hope that clears things up.
for available options to my state the only choices are 90 days or 7 years and people from south dakota are even prevented from getting a credit freeze
in my state this is a good place to do identity theft because the laws are setup to protect the thief and screw the victim
i am trying to get the 7 years since that is the only way to get something longer than 90 days
Since the AG advises on their website to send copy of police report to the CRA, maybe you should file a complaint with the AG about the PD not letting you have a copy.
Or maybe you should call the chief of police and tell them that the AG advises ID theft victims to send a copy of the police report to the CRA, therefore you need one.

i did that about the ag and all i get is the standard response of if that is their proceedures then that is their proceedures and we will not get involved in making them violate proceedures
sounds like i need to move to a state that i will actually be allowed to use my protection under federal law
