old debt

How long does it take for a account to come off credit report? I had credit cards go to collections in 2002. I paid them off in 2003 and when I look at credit report they are still there.

You need to know the DOFD. This is set by the OC not a CA!!   If the OC is reporting look for the drop date. This will only show on a CR pulled from the CBs

An account is usually COd after the DOFD

If the DOFD is 2002....it will drop from your CR 7-7.5 years or in 2009

Re: old debt

It should be 7 years after the debt 1st went bad.  If that was in 2002, then you are looking at sometime in 2009.  Go pull your free annual credit reports as they will usually show the drop off date for every closed account/collection.  I don't know why myfico reports that we pay for don't have that information, but it seems to only show up on reports you get directly from one of the 3 credit agencies.
