Sure you 'could' do that....

But that would lead to more time rebuilding, as points would come at a slower pace.
Reports would stay 'dirtier' longer....so fewer lenders will want to work with you.
And last, but not least; the frustration of the first two!

Re: what if i bypass old negative marks and work on good credit

oh ok also one more thing. I had a credit card from CAP ONE abou 2005. The credit card was 500 but now its 1700. Is it probally charged off?? And also How do i deal with it...I called Cap One and they cant find that account. Do i DV first then try to PFD or just let it go seeing as its 3 years but wont the interest pile up. or do i just PIF?

Did they really tell you they can't find it??
Dv 'em!!! If they can't verify it, they have to remove it! Smiley Wink

Everyone says to always DV before doing PFD's! (Which makes sense, because of the above!)

You can't DV an OC.  Do some searching on the forums for an OC letter.  There is a separate letter for OC's, but I am personally not familiar with what is in it or why it is different than a DV letter.

Is CapOne updating your balance monthly?  Look on your report and see if you can find a "last reported date" or something of that nature to see if they have been updating.  It would be interesting to know if they are updating your balance when they "can't find" your account.  It seems that they must be if your balance is so much higher than your original balance.

Re: what if i bypass old negative marks and work on good credit

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this forum and have been learning quite a bit, but i cannot seem to find any relevant information. For some background when i was between 18/19 (23 now) i acquired 6 different cards and closed to of them due to their fees and made good on the others. I also bought a new car when i was 17 obviously because of my age the entire loan was put in my mothers name. Things went bad shortly thereafter when i started working for my stepfather(contractor). It first started when his truck "blew" up and needed a replacement. i was naive and cosigned with my mother for a truck it because my mother and stepfather were over extended (cannot say stupid enough). Then i was purchasing material for jobs on my cards and told I would be paid back and i was for a while. This went on till not only was i not getting paid back for the material but also for my labor. Then all my credit cards defaulted, shortly there after i got a credit report and found out only 1 payment was made on the truck w/o being 30 days late over about 2 years. Going after my stepfather really isn't going to work last I heard he is looking at 10-15 in the pen.

I've since made good with all the cards except one (capital one collections ~$550) and a phone collection to AT&T for about ~$950. Then just this past month i found out the truck was repoed and i owe the difference ($4K). To boot i have >$28K in school loans and graduate this december (hope i can get a job).

I know i screwed up bad, real bad, but i want to do good. The problem is i have limited income and cannot get a credit at all to rebuild. I plan on paying AT&T and Cap one but what should i do about the repo or trying to rebuild. Im just at a loss with this chicken/egg predicament and get seem to a good plan of action. (FiCO ~500)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

bump

JohnMP5 ~ I recommend you post this in a thread all its own.
First, it's too important to get buried!
Second, it's easier for those offering the advice to keep track if not confused as to who is posting
Third, you're (technically) "thread-jacking" by posting this situation in the OP's thread Smiley Wink

But, seriously, you've got a lot going on here ~ the mods & vets will, IMO, be better able to help you if you start a separate thread.

All my best to you ~ make sure you hang out here and soak up all the wisdom you can. There IS light at the end of the tunnel and you're getting a handle on it while you're still young!  You can do this!

I've got some info that may help you, please PM me if interested (the info is NOT anything like a credit repair program & doesn't violate TOS).
