CA refuses to validate-What to do?

Please help! I have one medical collection 6 years old which I knew nothing about till pulling credit report. I could not get in touch with OC to pay the $166. This was a group that contracted with our local hospital and provided the ER physicians. Our hospital no longer uses them- Barrier Island Emergency Physicians. I have called the hospital, googled, and searched the internet to try to locate this OC to pay, but cannot find them. I sent first letter to CRA and they sent back as verified, but with no info. Next I sent HIPPA letter to CA and they just responded back that according to Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that I was " sent initial notification of your debt on 10/15/04 and you did not dispute this debt within your 30-day time period, or you have already paid the debt thus acknowledging it as valid, or we have sent you verification at a prior date. There is no obligation for a debt collector to provide verification upon receipt of a verification demand after the expiration of the validation period." Well I never received anything from them. I am trying to buy house now and this collection is holding my FICO score down. I have had no lates in almost 2 years and revolving credit use I keep below 5%, but cannot get score above 670. I need at least a 680 according to bank. What can I do?

Welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Can you wait on buying your house? Fixing credit and house hunting don't mix. Its possible that a different lender will let you pay this collection and underwrite your mortgage. Also, since this med collection is six years old, it will fall off your reports in less than a year.

Re: CA refuses to validate-What to do?

Thanks for quick reply. We have been trying to get credit score up for a year, but did not find FICO FORUMS soon enough. We are trying to get house right down the road from where we live. The sellers have been trying to sell for 2 years. They have built another house and are tired of making 2 mortgage payments. We have already been trying to make this happen for a year now and don't think we can get them to wait another year. I thought I could get my score up faster, but without getting the collection off, dont think it will go up any more. Is there anything else I can do as far as the HIPPA process goes? Should I just pay the CA or will that get me no where? Am I at a deadend since the CA refuses to validate? I could have and will pay this bill at any time I just never knew about it and do not know which family member it was for(family of 5). This is sooo frustrating!

On your credit report, is this collection marked as "disputed and verified"?

Re: CA refuses to validate-What to do?

I just pulled my TransUnion from myfico. I do not see disputed or verified on it. Would I have to pull this from the actual CRA to get this? Or would it show on the myfico report? Thanks again for your help!

Re: CA refuses to validate-What to do?

You'll have to pull your report directly from TU to see this.
