Collection notice recieved

Today i just recieved a collection notice for $605 from back in 2006 when i had my daughter from mcs claim services for the hospital i had her in. I was not aware of any unpaid bills from the hospital as i was not notified of any bills. I had paid any and all bills which were copays i got from 06 back in 06. I'm unsure of who to call to find out about this debt. I'm no longer insuranced by Aetna who i had for insurance back in 06 so i ain't sure if i can call them.

Is the med collection on your reports? Not that i know of

Is it paid or unpaid? Unpaid

If paid, who did you pay, the OC (original creditor: doctor, dentist, hospital, etc.) or the CA (collection agency)?

If unpaid, do you have the money to pay it off in full? yes

Do you remember the date(s) of treatment? 8-3-06 8-6-06

Have you ever disputed the med collection? If yes, when and how? no

If you did dispute the collection, is it currently marked as "disputed and/or verified" on your report(s)?

Have you ever requested debt validation from the CA? If yes, what did they send you and when did you receive it? NO

What should i do next?

Re: Collection notice recieved

Call and talk to the manager Monday. If you do owe ask for a statment to be sent to you. Check it against everything that was paid.

Re: Collection notice recieved

Since a collection agency has it can the hospital take it back if i do indeed owe and agree to pay the hospital? I've worked so hard to get my scores above 700 that i don't want this screwing it up.

Re: Collection notice recieved

The hospital does not sell bad debts. They only assign them to a CA.

If you do owe the hospital then you would pay the hospital using the restrictive endoresment!!  The check can not be cashed by anyone other then the hospital.

Medical provider must follow HIPAA (PHI) law!  Once a debt is paid there is no business purpose left. BP allows the provider to have a CA collect the amount owed.

Re: Collection notice recieved

UPDATE- The hospital billing department called me this morning and said they apologized and i shouldn't have recieved a bill from collections 3 years later and it was there fault and they were going to 0 the balance and take care of the collection company. This is a huge weight lifted of my shoulders. I was worring all day on what was it i could have owed and maybe i didn't pay all the bills and it was my fault but am now glad that i know it wasn't my fault.
