Just pulled DH's report and there is a medical collection from 2008 on there, which is impacting his score. I don't even remember what this was for. I recall being annoyed when I got the letter two years ago, calling them and thinking it was taken care of. Now I see it was not. My bad. So now I am going to work on getting it removed.
I have submitted the "opt-out" requests, and now I have to go update the personal information. The name, birth year and address are correct on all of them. Two of them have as employer the company DH used to work for before that company got bought (then that company got bought). One of them has the employer that he worked for in college (he is now 43) and has his occupation as "student." How do I update that info?
I have prepared the "pre-HIPPA" letters, but before I send them out in the mail, I wanted to post to ask if I am doing this correctly. Here are the answers to the questions:
Is the med collection on your reports? Yes.
Is it paid or unpaid? On one CR it reads: "Paid, was a collection account, insurance claim or government claim or was terminated for default" The other CR has it as: "Paid" and in the comment section it says "MEDICAL Paid"
If paid, who did you pay, the OC (original creditor: doctor, dentist, hospital, etc.) or the CA (collection agency)? Don't remember the circumstances but I have a feeling that our medical insurance paid it
If unpaid, do you have the money to pay it off in full? NA
Do you remember the date(s) of treatment? No-- one DD has a chronic illness and we have a lot of doctors, specialists, etc., so I really don't remember who this was or what it was in relation to.
Have you ever disputed the med collection? If yes, when and how? Just over the phone when we first got the letter
If you did dispute the collection, is it currently marked as "disputed and/or verified" on your report(s)? No, it is marked KD on one of them
Have you ever requested debt validation from the CA? No. If yes, what did they send you and when did you receive it?
Is my next move to send the Pre-HIPPA letters?
Thank you in advance for your advice and guidance.
Welcome to the forums!
Only concern yourselves if an incorrect address is on your husband's reports, incorrect employers don't matter. I would send off the HIPAA letters once you're finished with the opt-out letters.
Thank you for the quick reply and the warm welcome :-)
I will mail those off right away and cross my fingers...
