I've read the HIPPA threads and have followed the initial 3 steps. Today I received from the CA, validation of the debt. My next step is to send letter to OC with payment, however...
1. CA has (2) accounts from same provider. One is old (2000) and not reporting, the other is reporting since (2007)
- Will I have to pay for both accounts within the HIPPA process to get the removal, or can I address the one that's
reporting?
2. In either case the balance contains principal and interest.
- Do pay OC only the principal, or balance with interest?
Call the OC and find out how is owed to them. If they refuse to tell you and refer you back to the CA, then pay the amount owed to the CA to the OC.
Send the HIPAA letter to the OC CMRRR. Use insert A and pay with a cashier’s check and use the restrictive endorsement on the back of the check, for deposit only into the account of Dr. XXXXX XXXXX or the Hospital Name) and send it CMRRR.
Once you receive the green card, send follow-up dispute letter below to the CRA’s CMRRR with a copy of the green card from the HIPAA letter to the OC.
CAs can and do tack on interest. What ever you do, do not pay the CA. Lets even see if you even have to pay these collections. Here are the first few steps in the HIPAA letter process.
1.) Opt Out of two things: Your Credit Reports and All Creditors. The first one ensures that the CRAs will not sell your personal data to anyone else (haha…no more data mining). The second one will prevent JDBs (and CAs) from buying and selling bogus collections.

OPT-OUT CREDIT REPORTS (or call 1.888.567.8688)
Use this link to opt-out from all of your CURRENT creditors that you're in GOOD standing with. Do not attempt to opt-out with any CAs or current creditors that you're in BAD standing with (i.e. charge-offs, or currently late).
2.) Also, be sure to update your personal information with the CRA's before attempting to reestablish your credit.
3.) Send the pre-HIPAA dispute letter to the CRA ('s) CM (no RR, this is the only letter in the HIPAA process where you will not send it CMRRR) and wait up to 35 days for the results of the their investigation(s). Be sure to handwrite this letter (and the envelop too) using personalized stationary and teal blue ink. If your med collection is deleted, you're finished. If its not delete, post back in this thread.
That's just it. I followed the initial steps ( both opt outs and sent the pre hippa letter to CA) The original CA replied validating not only the collection that is reporting, but another amount from the same OC. One is from the year 2000 and the other is from the year 2007.
At this point in the process, I would pick from the scenarios, choose the proper insert and mail that letter with payment to the OC.
However, before doing that I needed to know which amounts to pay (principal and interest), or just principal and can I just address the account that's reporting, or do I need to address both. Sorry if I wasn't clear initially.
