Med Collection Question

Hello All,

Just checked my reports for the year and found out I have 2 med collections reporting. The first one says paid reporting 0 balance. The other one says status Z bankruptcy but is not reporting a orig or current balance. I have already opted out. My question is would I send 2 pre hippa letters or include both collections on the same letter to the cra.

Re: Med Collection Question

Welcome to the forums!

Have you ever declared BK? Are you sure the second collection also has a $0 balance?

Re: Med Collection Question

Yes, I did file BK in 2007.  Both appear only on Equifax. The first collection says org amt 460 bal 0 and states paid. The second says org amt 0 bal 0 status Z Bankruptcy. I have not done anything with the first collection as I just noticed it yesterday. The second one I think I did send an online dispute to the CRA a long time ago but it doesn't say verified.

Were these debts supposed to be included in your BK?

No, I didn't have knowledge of them when I filed.

Re: Med Collection Question

Here are the first few steps in the HIPAA letter process.

1.) Opt Out of two things: Your Credit Reports and All Creditors. The first one ensures that the CRAs will not sell your personal data to anyone else (haha…no more data mining). The second one will prevent JDBs (and CAs) from buying and selling bogus collections.

Use this link to opt-out of your credit reports

OPT-OUT CREDIT REPORTS (or call 1.888.567.8688)

Use this link to opt-out from all of your CURRENT creditors that you're in GOOD standing with. Do not attempt to opt-out with any CAs or current creditors that you're in BAD standing with (i.e. charge-offs, or currently late).

OPT-OUT ALL CREDITORS

2.) Also, be sure to update your personal information with the CRA's before attempting to reestablish your credit.

3.) Send the pre-HIPAA dispute letter to the CRA ('s) CM (no RR, this is the only letter in the HIPAA process where you will not send it CMRRR) and wait up to 35 days for the results of the their investigation(s). Be sure to handwrite this letter (and the envelop too) using personalized stationary and teal blue ink. If your med collections are deleted, you're finished. If they're not, please post again in this thread for further advice. Good Luck!
