Medical Collection Reporting

Do CAs have to report or reflect a medical collection as being a medical collection versus some other type of collection issue? For example, I just realized a recently posted collection from NCO shows NCO Fin/99. It does not designate medical. Is this correct reporting. Won't some companies look at medical collections a little differently than other types of collection efforts?

Re: Medical Collection Reporting

So long as there is nothing on a report that a potential creditor might pull that is beyond what you have just shared, no law would be broken. Some mortgage lenders might just require you to pay the med collection in full. Be careful of doing this though, your FICO will go lower.

Re: Medical Collection Reporting

I dont mind paying if its valid.  Its only $65.  I thought it was picked up by my secondary carrier. I wasnt notified by NCO prior to placing it on my report which is why I am asking so many questions about the HIPAA process. The letters are just worded so "mean" Smiley Happy    I just wanted to make sure it wasnt supposed to be marked a medical.

I am in the process of getting a HELOC. SHould I let them know about this in advance?  This is why I asked in my other post can I just pay the OC.
