Question for Fuzed

Why do you need to send the opt-out letters to creditors you are in good standing with, before you start the HIPAA process?

Re: Question for Fuzed

It helps to prevent JDBs (and other CAs) from buying and selling bogus collections. I highly recommend you do this prior to fixing your credit rather it be med collections or non-med baddies. Does skipping this step prevent you from being successful with the HIPAA process, no.

Re: Question for Fuzed

Fused, I have a follow up question. Do I have to try to find information on every OC that I may owe on an old account, that isn't showing on my credit report? An opt out letter has to go to every creditor right? or am I confused?

Thanks

Re: Question for Fuzed

I would say, yes, so long as you are in good standing with them. Being currently late, or having a CO, repo, foreclosure (including a short-sale, deed in lieu), etc. is obviously not in going standing.

Re: Question for Fuzed

Thanks again Fuzed. I keep thinking of questions along these lines. If this question is in the wrong place, let me know. How does opting out with creditiors I am in good standing, keep JDBs from buying my old, bad debts?

Re: Question for Fuzed

Opting-out is a preventive measure, nothing more. Its not a requirement before using the HIPAA letter process, or fixing other credit problems, that is non-med baddies. However, it is highly recommended that everyone opt-out before fixing their credit. Information about you is everything, if can slow down or prevent third parties from accessing and sharing your personal information, you'll be well ahead of the game.
