So today I answer my office phone & it's a collector looking for someone. I calmly tell her that this is a business and what is it in reference to.
Snotty nosed collecto: "it's personal"
Crabby Me "We do not encourage employees to accept personal phone calls at this office"
Snotty nosed collector: "Does xxx work there"
Crabby Me: "It is our policy to NOT give out personal information, period"
Snotty nosed collector: "Why won't you tell me"
Crabby Me: "I cannot help you"
Snotty nosed collector: "I'm not asking for you to help me"
That was about all I could stand from this twit. I bet she now has a headache.![]()
Daily I get these calls.
Have fun with it. Some are very stubborn and won't hang up so I'll shoot the breeze and talk sports, the weather, politics, and the like. They almost never call again. Unfortunately, I do have Kay Jewelers calling for an employee and they call over and over and over again and hang up as soon as they realize that I'm not so and so.

In one previous residence our phone number differed by ONE DIGIT from that of a medical clinic, so we got LOTS of misdirected calls at all hours. In the next residence our phone number differed by ONE DIGIT from a FAX machine at the local YMCA, so on an average day our answering machine would collect about six FAX beeps. Now, my phone at work gets lots of robo-calls "the warranty on your car may be about to expire..." (my car is eight years old so its warranty is long since expired). Fortunately Connecticut is not a swing State, and our Representative in Congress has a safe seat, so our home phone has not been getting those political robo-calls I've been reading about (we got quite enough of those at Primary election time).

*derisive snort* (not directed at you)
We've been getting calls from pushy pollsters demanding to know .... wait for it ... who we're voting for for Water and Soil District Group!!!
We're in FL, so I'm nigh sure we're a "Swing state" ... but for the guy in charge of Water and Soil? Yeesh ... gimme a break!!! o_O

Yup. "Cause .... ummm ... you know what a pivotal position that is, right?! ![]()
And guess what our choices are, this year? We get to choose between a 24 yo kid who has NO experience in whatever the Water & Soil guy does and a guy who's got a 15 year long rap sheet for domestic violence.
Now ... don't you wish YOU lived here???? o_O
I'm probably making more light of this than I should (just still annoyed at the calls) .... our water quality is HORRIBLE. At least twice a month we're on "Boil Water Alerts" because of heavy rains or pipes bursting. :/
Ask me how likely it is for you to ingest poopy when you swim on our beautiful beaches ... HIGH.

Our Regional Water Authority officials are appointed, and our system seems to work OK, not that I know -- or want to know -- all the details.

Oh-ho-ho ... if you had to boil your tap water as often as we do, you WOULD want to know the details. Mainly because (**ugh**) there's been times that we didn't find out about the "Boil Water" alert until a couple of days LATER.
We'll just say that bottled water, though expensive and probably not as pure as they say it is, is VERY popular in our house -- most everyone's house, I'd s'pose.
At this very moment, we've gotten over 6 inches of rain (being VERY conservative in that estimate -- it's been raining solidly for almost two days now), and by Sat morning, we WILL have a BWA. I can durn nigh guarantee it.
What's really scary is that I don't think they tell the tourists that come and stay in the hotels or timeshares (which is a LOT) that there's a BWA. So they're probably ingesting sewage on the beach AND off. Yuck.
It's been found that average person consumes about 1 kg. of E.Coli in a year with water (sorry to say, but it means we consume about 1kg of poop in a year). No such thing with consuming liquor.
Conclusion:
It is better to drink wine and speak stupidly, than drink water and be full of cr*p.
